Spring is the season of new beginnings, regrowth, and regeneration. And, as the temperatures become warmer and the days lighter heading into summer, it’s only natural that we’d want to bring some of this energy into our homes.
With that in mind, here are some of this season’s key home design trends.

ALL SHADES OF GREEN

This spring, people will want spaces that connect to nature. And one way to do this quickly and easily is through hues of green.
A calming, spiritual colour, greens create a sense of wellbeing, serenity, and creativity. In fact, several studies have shown that the colour green can have a positive effect on our psyche. So it’s no wonder that all the major paint manufacturers are promoting green as a spring shade.
While green works well in all rooms of the home, it can be particularly effective in kitchens and bathrooms. Rich emeralds, calming olives, and fresh sages all help to re-energise homes. And, when it comes to fixtures and fittings, greens look simply stunning next to metallic brassware (another key design trend for 2022).

NATURAL MATERIALS

Colour isn’t the only way people will be bringing some of the outside into their homes this season. Natural materials such as wicker, rattan, ceramic, and wool will also be used to create restorative spaces that inspire renewal and relaxation.
And while plants have been a key trend for a few years now, our love of green botanicals is going to deepen with the adoption of indoor gardens and living walls, adding pops of colour and vibrancy to our homes.

SUSTAINABILITY

With the climate emergency a concern across the globe, there is a real desire for more eco-friendly living. As such, homeowners are looking for responsibly manufactured products when improving their homes. Building materials, energy costs and sustainable practices will all be front of mind.
Eco-friendly wooden kitchens will also become more popular, with fixtures and fittings that prioritise efficiency. Cottagecore – which embraces simple living and harmony with nature - will also be a key trend. And, advancing the desire for sustainability, smart appliances will become increasingly fashionable as people fuse a commitment toward environmentally friendly products with a desire for convenience.

OUTDOOR LIVING

Over the last few years, our homes have become more important than ever. And, as options for socialising decreased, we looked to our homes to provide much-needed entertainment spaces.
For anyone lucky enough to have a garden/terrace/balcony, fireplaces, garden design, lighting and outdoor seating was a priority. And now, as the world has re-opened, our desire for all things alfresco is not going to diminish.
As such, we predict that outdoor kitchens will be a key season trend. From wood-fired pizza ovens to portable cooking stations, this spring, people are going to continue to make the most of their external spaces with inspiring, functional outside kitchens.

CURVE APPEAL

Curved, contemporary design will be popular this spring. Think round cushions, curved lighting and furniture, curved kitchen worktops, and taps that boast smooth curves and profiles. The overarching feel will be a cocooning, soft look that is natural and cosy.
But you don’t have to take our word for it. Rounded corners, arches and soft edges are being embraced by all the leading furniture retailers.
Of course, when it comes to your home, the key design trend this spring is whatever makes you happy!

COLOUR BLOCKING

Colour blocking is a simple and effective way to add wow-factor to any interior.  Whether you’re furnishing, accessorising or painting and decorating, this is a fantastic minimalist way to give any room the wow factor, in real-life or on Instagram. Simply pick two bright and bold colours that clash and make them work in any way you want!
