Top trends for kitchens

Our latest blog looks back at the top trends for kitchens in 2021 and casts an eye to the future by examining the styles we expect to be in demand over the next 12 months.

BOLD COLOURS

Last year, statement green and blue kitchens were an emerging trend. And, in 2022, even more people will embrace colour. Bold kitchen units with jewel-like hues are becoming especially desirable. In addition, homeowners will use eye-catching wallpaper and colourful tiles to create a striking look. And to add extra interest to kitchen designs, people will pair their confident colour choices with statement shelving, smoked glass-fronted cabinets, and metallic taps.

SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

Sustainable and natural materials are becoming increasingly sought after as people seek out environmentally friendly products. In 2021, we saw a growing interest in second-hand kitchens, with ex-display or previously owned units rising in popularity. But we don’t expect the recycled cupboard market to make much more of an impact in 2022. Instead, eco-friendly wooden kitchens will become more popular, with people buying from companies that can deliver responsibly sourced materials, sustainable manufacturing processes and recycled elements.

Visually, people will want a connection with nature in their kitchens, so plants and natural woods will help bring the outside inside. Linen fabrics and ceramic crockery will finish off the eco-vibe. Continuing the trend from last year, eco-positive fixtures and fittings will also be popular over the next 12 months. So, when buying kitchen taps, homeowners will prioritise efficiency, waste, and environmentally friendly materials.

SMART APPLIANCES

Advancing the sustainability trend, smart appliances will become increasingly fashionable as people fuse a commitment toward environmentally friendly products with a desire for convenience. With remote control technology, pre-set programs, intelligent lighting and even fridges that order your shopping, we’re only starting to see what is possible. But it is already established smart products such as hot and cold filtered taps that will see the most demand in 2022.

MULTI-USE KITCHENS

Over the last couple of years, due to the ongoing pandemic, many kitchens became makeshift home offices. But with people across the UK now facing hybrid working for the foreseeable, we are all starting to think more innovatively about the space we have available to us.

For those lucky enough to have large kitchens, distinct spaces will be created for cooking, eating, working, and relaxing. Built-in dining booths will be especially prevalent in the zoned kitchen over the next 12 months. For those without the luxury of space, ingenious solutions will be needed. Think folding desks, pantries that double as home offices, and built-in storage solutions.

METALLIC FINISHING TOUCHES

There is no denying the attractiveness of metallic brassware. And its popularity won’t change any time soon. However, many homeowners will turn towards taps that boast smoother curves and profiles rather than sharp lines, straight edges, and hard angles.

Contemporary metallic fittings will continue to be used by people who want to create an elegant and affluent vibe. And, whether you want a modern, distinctive look that adds a natural infusion of style, or a beautiful, traditional, and timeless feel with a contemporary lift, our range of coloured taps includes Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Gunmetal, Antique Brass, and Copper.

MIXED MATERIALS

In 2022, mixed material kitchens will be exceedingly sought-after. Key products will include open wooden display shelving, striking marble worktops (look out for veined marble, which is set to be a huge kitchen trend), glazed splashback tiles, and industrial materials such as Crittall doors, black taps and brick or concrete walls.

Metal kitchen units with copper, brass, or stainless-steel doors will also be paired with wood, marble, or granite to create a daring, stylish look. At the same time, kitchens that include some showstopping antique or vintage pieces will also be in demand.
